Vertical ergonomic optical wired mouse designed specifically to prevent carpal tunnel syndrome
When working with a regular computer mouse, the bones of the forearm are in an unnaturally crossed position and after a short time the entire forearm becomes painful and tired. Long-term use of such a mouse can lead to chronic problems requiring medical attention.
Carpal tunnel syndrome or computer mouse syndrome - a modern health problem
The use of regular office mice is also associated with a modern computer disease - the so-called carpal tunnel syndrome (also known as RSI). It is a compression of the median nerve in the carpal tunnel, which is located in the wrist. The median nerve, passing through this tunnel, transmits impulses from the brain to the thumb, index finger, middle finger and part of the ring finger. In healthy people who do not overload the wrist area, the carpal tunnel provides enough space for the median nerve to pass through, and the fingers are thus sufficiently supplied with impulses from the brain, thus maintaining their full functionality and sensitivity.
The basic symptoms of this syndrome include tingling and pain in the first three fingers (thumb, index and middle finger) reminiscent of the feeling of the hand being overstretched. There is also a weakened sensitivity of the hand, manifested by a reduced ability to hold firmly and clumsiness of the hand in general (ultimately leading to objects falling out of the hand). Symptoms often occur even at rest and the pain can spread to the forearm and shoulder. In the initial stage, the solution is simple - immediately stop using a regular computer mouse and exercise the hand regularly. In the advanced stage, endoscopic surgery in the wrist is necessary, when the carpal tunnel is released, or rather. its patency is increased. In the case of a fully developed syndrome, the wrist ligaments must be cut, which removes the pressure on the nerve.
According to the State Institute of Health (SZÚ), this is the most common occupational disease in the Czech Republic, with 500 patients registered in 2017 and the number of patients increasing every year.
All these problems can be easily prevented by using an ergonomic vertical mouse, in which the user's hand and forearm are in a natural position and there is no unnatural crossing of tendons and bones or compression of the median nerve in the wrist.
