The device is not only a converter between transmission media, but also serves as a PoE injector. The Planet FTP-80x range of converters is an ideal choice for equipping remote network installations and applications. They integrate two functions:
- conversion of the transmission medium 100Base-FX MM to 10/100Base-TX
- Power over ethernet injector
The network element is thus an ideal choice for service providers, for office and company premises, or for expanding the network structure with Wi-Fi technology, whose access points can be powered directly using converters. The use of FTP-80x converters is directly offered for the implementation and installation of IP camera systems, i.e. including cameras powered by PoE. The IEEE 802.3af standard contained in the FTP-80x uses 48V SS voltage in the Ethernet cabling, this allows the use of classic Ethernet UTP cabling between the FTP-80x and an IEEE 802.3af compatible device (PD-Powered Device) or a PoE splitter (e.g. POE-151S- 5V / 12V). The maximum distance for using PoE power over an Ethernet cable is up to 100m. To extend the range of the Ethernet network, the FT-80x are equipped with an integrated optical interface. This effectively makes it possible to extend the required range of the network connection, depending on the model of the converter, it is possible to implement a connection point up to 15 km away with the possibility of using PoE via an optical connection.
The converter technology uses a "store-forward" mechanism that should actively prevent transmission losses using IEEE 802.3x. The LFP (Link Fault Pass Through function) function can notify the network administrator of a device failure, the DIP switch can be used to control the alarm function.
