Verbatim dual-layer discs offer a massive storage capacity of 8.5GB (2.6 for 8cm discs). Dual-layer recording is possible due to the addition of a new backing layer that separates the two recording layers and allows laser beam recording on both layers. After the data is recorded on the first layer, the laser focus is changed and recorded on the second layer.
