Victron BMV-712 Smart

The BMV-712 Smart (Battery Monitor Voltage) external module/display is a new high precision two independent battery monitoring system.

Why monitor battery operating conditions? For its longer life! Detailed battery monitoring allows us to detect any operational deficiencies ensuring quick remediation to support long battery life. Suitable for all types of lead-acid batteries including fleece (AGM) and gel. Simple setting of the battery capacity (factory setting at 200 Ah). Auto-detection of 12, 24, 36, 48, 60, 120, 144 and 288 V voltages (note that it varies by model). Regular automatic calibration of the device for reliable display of measured data (can also be done manually). The BMV-700H version is designed for systems with high operating voltage (DC 70 to 350 V), the BMV-702 version is designed for dual battery monitoring, battery temperature monitoring or average values. The tracker is suitable also for Li-on batteries.

Battery monitor Battery monitor BMV-712 Smart is additionally equipped with integrated Bluetooth technology compared to the BMV-702 model. The BMV-712 Smart, thanks to Bluetooth wireless communication technology, which is implemented in most other Victron Energy products, will simplify the installation of the system and increase its performance.

Basic displayed values

  • the current voltage (V) of the battery
  • current current (A) that goes into (positive values - charging) or out (negative values - discharging) from the battery
  • current power (W) that goes into (positive values - charging) or out (negative values - discharging) from the battery (multiple of voltage and current)
  • the total amount of energy taken from the battery to power appliances in ampere-hours (Ah)
  • current battery charge rate in percent
  • expected (sophisticatedly calculated) length of time in hours until 50% battery discharge at a given energy consumption

The tracker stores selected historical data and achieved limit values

  • the deepest battery discharge achieved
  • rate of last battery discharge
  • the number of discharged/charged cycles of the accumulator
  • average battery discharge value
  • the number of full battery discharges
  • the maximum battery voltage reached
  • minimum battery voltage reached
  • number of days since the last full battery charge

Technical parameters

  • power consumption when the display is not backlit and the relay is off: 1 mA (12 V) and 0.8 mA (24 V)
  • power consumption when the display is not illuminated and the relay is switched on: 1 mA (12 V) and 0.8 mA (24 V)
  • working voltage: 12, 24 and 48 V (auto detection)
  • maximum amount of current passing through the shunt: -500 to +500 A (battery discharge and charge)
  • maximum deviation in voltage reading: ±0.01 A at voltage 0 - 100 V
  • maximum deviation in current reading: ±0.01 A with 500 A shunt
  • maximum deviation when reading the capacity: ±0.1 Ah for battery capacities 0 - 100 Ah
  • maximum deviation when reading the capacity: ±1 Ah for battery capacities 100 - 9999 Ah
  • maximum deviation when reading the state of charge: ±0.1%
  • maximum deviation when estimating the remaining time: ±1 hour (in the range of 1 - 240 hours)
  • maximum deviation in power reading: ±1 W in the range from -100 W to 1 kW
  • total battery capacity: 20 - 9999 Ah
  • working temperature range: -20 to +50 °C
  • circular diameter of own tracker: 63 mm
  • square size of custom tracker cover: 69 x 69 mm
  • depth of own tracker: 31 mm
  • switching relay: 60 V (1 A) maximum
  • weight of the tracker itself: 70 g
  • weight of the side: 315 g
  • shunt connecting screws: M10
  • material: plastic

The tracker performs sophisticated monitoring of supplied and withdrawn energy together with consideration of an adjustable Peukert exponent value (the greater the energy consumption, the relatively lower the amount of available energy in the battery and vice versa) and battery efficiency to estimate the current amount of energy (Ah) and battery charge level (in percentages). To correctly display the amount of available energy in the battery, it is necessary that all energy entering and leaving the battery passes through the shunt. The tracker itself can be integrated into the wall without the need for access from behind (covered screws). For currents greater than 500 A, a spare shunt designed for currents of 1000 and 2000 A can be supplied. Shunts can be used on the tracker up to a maximum current of 9999 A with a voltage range of 1 - 100 mV (both adjustable). The tracker has a switched relay. This is activated/deactivated based on the measured battery level. The factory setting is to turn on when the battery charge drops below 50% and turn off when the charge reaches 90%. These values can be changed in the settings. It is also possible to reverse the switching logic, i.e. by default the relay is switched on, by default it is switched off. The relay can be used to switch on/off devices such as an external alarm, power plant, etc.

Package contains

  • custom tracker with backlit digital display and controls
  • plastic tracker cover with dimensions of 69 x 69 mm
  • 500 A (50 mV) shunt designed for a maximum current of 500 A (to be installed on the negative battery cable)
