Victron SmartSolar 100/20 MPPT

Robust and fast MPPT controller for demanding conditions with panel voltage up to 100 V, maximum charging current 20 A. Battery 12/24/48 V, PV max. 290/580/1160 Wp. Built-in Bluetooth and VE.direct interface.

Ultra-fast Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT)

Victron Energy's MPPT solar controllers are among the absolute world leaders in this field and offer ultra-fast MPPT tracking. Especially under cloudy skies with continuously changing light intensity, thanks to this controller, solar gains are 30% higher compared to classic PWM controllers or 10% higher compared to slow MPPT controllers. Excellent efficiency up to 98%, without unnecessary energy losses with quiet passive cooling without a fan.

The maximum permitted panel power for 12 V systems is 290 Wp, for 24 V systems 580 Wp and for 48 V systems 1160 Wp. If these values are exceeded, the controller will automatically reduce the incoming power from the panels to acceptable values, so the excess power will not damage the controller. The solar controller is preset at the factory and there is usually no need to make major adjustments to the settings. The maximum open-circuit voltage (referred to as Voc) of the connected solar panels must not exceed 100 V. Caution! As the outside temperature drops, the voltage of the solar panels increases. The maximum input short-circuit current of the PV panels must not exceed 20 A, otherwise permanent damage may occur.

The new series of SmartSolar MPPT controllers offer built-in Bluetooth

This new feature brings the ability to connect your "smart" phone/tablet to your "smart" solar controller. You can monitor many system parameters and historical statistics for the last 30 days. You also have the option to set operating parameters. Download the free VictronConnect mobile app for iOS or Android. If you want to do the above using a PC, then you can use the VE.direct to USB cable to connect the controller and PC. You just install the Victron Connect program on your computer.

The internal electronic components are protected by a resin coating against adverse effects and for a long life. It thus offers increased protection resistance IP43 for electronic components and IP22 for connection connectors. Designed for a vertical position on a non-flammable base, with wiring from below. The regulator contains an internal temperature sensor for corresponding adjustment of the charging voltage. Automatic detection of system voltage 12/24/48 V.

Adaptive three-stage charging

  1. fast charging (Bulk), 2 . absorption (Absorption) and 3. maintenance (Float). Initially, in fast charging, a high current and lower voltage is generated to quickly recharge a discharged battery. This phase is followed by a constant voltage with decreasing current to fully charge the battery without dangerous overcharging that reduces battery life. A charged battery is kept charged by very low current and low voltage. If the battery voltage drops below 13.2 V, for example due to load, a new charging cycle is started.

The voltage from the panels must exceed the battery voltage by 5V for the regulator to start working and charging the battery. The regulator charges until the voltage from the panels is 1 V higher than the battery voltage. For a 12 V battery, we recommend panels with a minimum number of 32 cells and a maximum number of 108 cells (panels in series). It is therefore possible to charge a 12 V battery as well as panels with a working voltage of 24 V. For 24 V systems, we recommend panels with a minimum number of 72 cells and a maximum number of 108 cells. The purpose is to achieve sufficient voltage to effectively and fully charge the battery

The solar controller has a DC output for powering a DC load. The DC output voltage is equal to the battery voltage. So if you have, for example, a 12 V battery - we can power a 12 V load on the DC output. The maximum DC output current is 20 A for a 12 V battery, 20 A for a 24 V battery and 1 A for a 48 V battery.

BatteryLife algorithm - adaptive charging to extend battery life. The regulator constantly monitors the charge level of the battery and day after day gradually increases the voltage level at which the load is disconnected until the absorption voltage is reached (the battery is fully charged). This is followed again by a drop in the voltage level, during which the load is disconnected. In this way, the battery can be fully charged approximately once a week even with reduced solar gains and higher load, which will have a positive effect on the battery's lifespan. This is an optional feature.

Warning

  • Victron Energy MPPT controllers are not allowed to be used in combination with photovoltaic panel optimizers. MPPT controllers and optimizers may be damaged during use
  • and this damage may not be recognized as a valid claim.
